The University of Madeira Students’ Union is launching a new edition of the award-winning Madeiran Heritage, a cultural immersion programme for international youth who wish to engage with the local community and contribute to the preservation and dissemination of Madeiran
history, legends, myths, and memory.
For the past few years, we’ve been a member of the FEST, the Federation of European Storytelling, an international network of organisations, networks, and associations active in the field of oral storytelling.
At the heart of this edition is storytelling, not only as a creative skill but as a powerful method for preserving intangible heritage and building connections across generations. Participants will take an active role in training and supporting young members of the Madeiran Heritage
programme, equipping them with practical techniques in narrative construction, oral history, performance, and digital storytelling. These sessions will help local youth transform historical content into compelling narratives that resonate with visitors and the wider public.
Through workshops, mentorship, and real-life application, you’ll guide them in discovering the stories behind places, objects, and customs and in finding their voice to tell them. Whether through writing, guided tours, podcasts, or social media, the stories created will reflect both
tradition and innovation, making the island’s rich cultural tapestry more accessible to all.
We will also provide training for the incoming volunteer, providing information about the Culture, Arts, and History of Portugal, with a focus on Madeira Island. The volunteer will be integrated into the Madeiran Heritage programme, also taking part in the educational and social
fields.

Tâches du volontaire:
Bring the art of storytelling to life by training a group of ten young people from across Europe who are also participating in the Madeiran Heritage programme for a short period of 3 to 12 months. These participants are receiving training from our organisation to lead cultural tours
on the island, but they lack storytelling skills, and that’s where your role becomes essential.

Profil recherché
