Le Gouvernement du Grand-Duché du Luxembourg

The project is a volunteering teams project with 10 volunteers and takes place on three different dates:

  1. 16.02.2026–10.04.2026

  2. 20.04.2026–12.06.2026

  3. 21.09.2025–13.11.2026

The volunteer chooses the date that suits him/her best.

The project connects social solidarity with environmental responsibility and practical ecological practices.

The Civic Ecology Garden functions both as a productive garden and as an open community space. It supports the values of sustainability, reuse, and responsible food production, while offering hands-on involvement in activities such as planting, composting, soil care, water-saving techniques, and seasonal maintenance. Part of the garden’s output is linked to the organization’s solidarity actions, reinforcing the connection between ecology and social support.

At the same time, the garden serves as a learning and awareness-raising environment for volunteers and the local community. Through daily practical work, cooperation, and informal exchange, volunteers gain direct experience of how small-scale ecological initiatives can create measurable social and environmental impact. Moreover, it constitutes a practical and successful example of the reclamation of an abandoned public space by civil society, followed by its revitalisation and adaptive reuse for social and community-based purposes. The project promotes active citizenship, solidarity, and sustainable lifestyles, while strengthening the relationship between people, nature, and the urban environment.

Tâches du volontaire:

– Active participation in coordinating and running activities of Kapnikos Stathmos Katerini

– Maintenance and support of the vegetable and herb garden (seeding, planting, harvesting etc)

– Active participation in preparation and execution of informative guided tours and special events

– Active part in the living community of Kapnikos Stathmos

At Kapnikos Stathmos Katerini, volunteer work is organized within a vibrant living community. All tasks, events, and special dates are discussed and assessed at the community table, both metaphorically and literally, with the weekly plan displayed on the community board. This inclusive approach ensures that all volunteers, regardless of their specific roles, are interconnected and adaptable to the community’s needs and involved and aware of the bigger picture.
Volunteers from the Civic Ecology Garden also support other solidarity activities such as the Social Goods Distribution or the Social Pharmacy, and vice versa. All participants contribute to the upkeep of the facilities and the well-being of the community.

Gesichten Profil

We are seeking a diverse, motivated, and energetic team of participants. Candidates must be open to working and living intensively with others (especially regarding the accommodation in a mixed dormitory). They should be ready to roll up their sleeves and get dirty or tired when needed, demonstrating a willingness to fully engage in hands-on activities. Additionally, candidates should be comfortable with the warm summer temperatures typical of Greece. We welcome individuals who are enthusiastic about making a positive impact on the environment while fostering successful teamwork.

The immediate positive effect the volunteering provides is the direct support in the various tasks including active participation in gardening, harvesting, preparing soil and compost, or the execution of informative campaigns and guided tours on and off site.

Furthermore, participants can inspire new perspectives and give ideas, while they are involved in the activities. After the activity, they might function as a positive influence on their own local community helping to spread awareness or start similar activities, multiplying the possible positive impact on a great scale.

If you enjoy teamwork, aren’t afraid of hard work, and eager to make a meaningful contribution, this opportunity is perfect for you! We are seeking motivated individuals who thrive in a team setting and appreciate being part of a diverse community.

While spare time is important for building connections with fellow volunteers and the local community, working hours are dedicated to focused, productive tasks. This project involves hands-on activities outside, so you’ll need to be ready for physical work that might leave you a bit dirty or tired, but ultimately very fulfilled.
Respecting rules and boundaries of peers and of the host is key to ensuring a safe, enjoyable experience for everyone involved!

After the selection process, each volunteer is invited to a personal online meeting to become familiar with the activities and the staff, while also having the opportunity to ask questions and clarify expectations. During this meeting all practical arrangements and project objectives are presented.
